Gary Stokan Hero of the Gridiron Winner 2019 - Herschel Walker
Named for the CEO of the Peach Bowl, this award honors a current or former NCAA football player who has exemplified the spirit of teamwork and leadership both on the field and in the community.
A gifted athlete, Herschel Walker is a Heisman Trophy winner (1982) who later spent 11 years in professional football, including stints with the Dallas Cowboys, Minnesota Vikings, Philadelphia Eagles, and New York Giants. In 2002, he was voted into the College Football Hall of Fame and was selected as the second greatest player in college football history. Herschel has been the national spokesman for the Patriot Support Program, received the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association (SGMA)’s Lifetime Achievement Award, and is a strong supporter of the Warrior Games. Herschel is also the author of Breaking Free, a memoir in which he shares the inspiring story of his life and diagnosis with dissociative identity disorder.
